Brown rat Rattus norvegicus
Identification features:
- Small sized mammal
- Pointed muzzle
- Large ears with visible hairless skin
- Fur is a greyish all over
- Tail is dark above and light below and is just shorter than the length of
the body and head
Brown rats are widespread in almost any habitat, especially in urban areas
where there is excess food.
Other identification clues
Droppings
Foul smelling short 'tic-tak' shaped droppings which have blunt ends or one
pointy end. They are blackish-brown in colour and up to 17mm long and 6mm wide.
